Townsville Post Office Plans Archive

Original architect's plans for Townsville's original and now heritage-listed post and telegraph office which was built in three stages between 1887 and 1889. The post office was designed by J.J. Clark who has been referred to as one of Australia's leading nineteenth century architects. The original clock and tower, though dismantled in 1942 after the Japanese air raid on Townsville, were restored in 1963 with a slightly higher tower. The building is notable for its large clock tower, heavy ground floor colonnades and lighter upper storey.
