Townsville History Project (1965-66) Archive
Ms Terri McCormack was a research assistant in the Department of History, James Cook University, during the mid-1960s. This is a collection of papers, documents, memoranda and correspondence collected by her “with the aim of compiling an annotated index of all existing records in Townsville [to] be used as a basis for subsequent histories of Townsville and North Queensland.” (See THP/5/3/36)
The archive is a combination of typed and hand written letters and notes, and also includes some historical printed material. Much of the documentation concerns queries on when businesses, organisations and schools in Townsville began, and ascertaining whether any local records were still retained either in Townsville or elsewhere. Interspersed with McCormack's notes are book chapters and articles (photocopies), and Acts of Parliament relevant to this project, as well as some material relating to a MA thesis on Sir Robert Philp.
