J.S. Love Archive
James Simpson Love was born in Scotland in 1863 and died in Townsville in 1933. He came to Australia during 1879 to join his parents who had taken up residence in Townsville. With Townsville as his base, Love built up considerable pastoral and business operations. His best known properties were Valley of Lagoons, near Ingham, Dunbar, in the Gulf, and Gainsford, near Charters Towers. After his death, Love's estate was left in perpetuity for charitable works with administration in the hands of the Queensland Trustees Limited.
This collection provides coverage of disbursements to charities between 1964 and 1970. It also includes journals and ledgers for the three stations mentioned above as well as other financial information for the periods 1926 to 1970.
