Anning Family, Reedy Springs
These papers were assembled by Mrs. M.E.A. Reid in the course of her research into the history of the Anning family in north Queensland. The results of her research have been compilied into a volume titled Sun on the Right which can be found in the North Queensland Collection.
Charles Cummins (spelling varies) Stone Anning, his wife Cleopatra, and seven of their surviving nine children arrived in Victoria in 1851. At various times they held the leasehold of the following stations: Cargoon, Reedy Springs, Chudleigh Park, Charlotte Plains, Compton Downs and Mount Sturgeon in Queensland and Wollorgorang in the Northern Territory. Mrs. Reid traces, in particular, the history of C.C.S. Anning's seventh son Francis Albert Anning and his wife Elizabeth and their life at Reedy Springs.
The papers comprise correspondence, legal documents and copies, unpublished memoirs, miscellaneous notes, account books and some letters and articles contributed by H. Anning to rural periodicals.

Correspondence
This collection of forty-eight letters and enclosures comprises mainly letters written to or by Mrs. Reid concerning information about the Anning family. The letters are arranged chronologically in subject groups assigned by Mrs. Reid.
AFRS/CORR/1 2/12/1897. Handwritten letter in envelope from "Alys" Anning to her cousin Jean Anning.
AFRS/CORR/2-8 1972-1978. Letters and enclosures include reminiscences of Anning descendants, an account of a lawsuit and information derived from parish registers dated 1538-1934.
AFRS/CORR/9-11 1974-1975. Letters and enclosures from the Bank of New South Wales in Bowen and in Sydney give details of Anning family accounts.
AFRS/CORR/12-15 1972-1973. Letters to and from Lloyds of London concern departure dates and other information on vessels sailing from England to Australia, 1849-1951.

There are three versions of Elizabeth Anning's memoirs and her son Harry's memoirs.
