Details "In September of 1993, a concerned Kuranda resident, Graham Bell, approached the Cairns Far North Environmental Centre about Sky-rail. He and a few others had apparently been discussing Kuranda's current situation for some time. The general feeling that tourism was causing too much strain on the "Village in the rainforest" prevailed, and they decided "the cablecar was just too much" (Bell, pers. comm., 1994). Consequently, Graham approached CAFNEC seeking guidance and regional support. CAFNEC offered help and provided the leadership they needed to get going on the campaign. The concerned residents began having meetings at Ngoombi Farm in Kuranda, and by September 28, they had adopted the title People Against Kuranda Skyrail. At this time they elected a chairman and a team of secretaries and began weekly meetings which took place on Tuesday evenings."
